Weymouth Town Centre Management Group endorses new hospitality app

Weymouth Town Centre Management Group has endorsed a new app that will help businesses and customers to safely use hospitality services again.

Capp, a new app available on smartphones, allows businesses to show in real time their capacity and how many spaces they have available, all in compliance with government guidelines. Customers are then able to instantly select an area of their choice using the live tracking system and will then be asked to scan a QR code when entering the building.

The app is available to download for free on smartphones, where you can then register as a customer or as your business. People without smartphones can be added as extra people while scanning in.

Cllr Colin Huckle, Chair of the Weymouth Town Centre Management Group, said:

“We are very happy to endorse this initiative and it could benefit many businesses in Weymouth, and we would like to ask any business that may find Capp beneficial to have a look at what it offers and consider registering and using the app.”

“We are committed to the economic recovery of Weymouth and want to support our community through the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Cllr Gary Suttle, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Skills at Dorset Council, said:

“We welcome Weymouth Town Centre Management Group’s introduction of technology to support the local economy. It is very encouraging to see visitors returning to the town, and the use of technology is vital to help our visitors observe social distancing and know about the availability of safe venues to eat, drink, and enjoy the town in. We want to ensure visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience, whilst contributing to the vibrancy and prosperity of local businesses.”

Claudia Moore, Weymouth BID Chief Operating Officer, said:

“Weymouth BID welcomes this initiative which will help people to go back to some kind of normality and feel safe to use our amazing hospitality services in Weymouth again.”

Craig Oakes, President of Weymouth & Portland Chamber of Commerce, said:

“From a business point of view, the Weymouth & Portland Chamber of Commerce were more than happy to endorse Capp. Within the hospitality and leisure trade, we saw a lot of quite daunting requirements that came when businesses reopened on the 4th July.”

“By introducing Capp to our area, we hope it will help businesses and their staff to simplify their procedures and do some of the heavy lifting for them that they have had to find work-arounds to in the last month. The app will also help with track and trace, which seems to be a very important part to fighting the coronavirus pandemic.”
