Weymouth Christmas lights switch on – watch from home

Weymouth Town Council will celebrate the official switching on of the town’s Christmas lights on Wednesday 2 December with a virtual event.

Weymouth will be lit up with festive lights and decorations, ready to welcome back shoppers as non-essential shops in the town are able to reopen from Wednesday 2 December.

The virtual switch on will feature special guests from Dorset County Hospital. Tune in to Weymouth Town Council’s Facebook page where you’ll be able to watch the event from 4pm on Wednesday 2 December.

Weymouth Town Council are encouraging businesses and residents to get involved at home by putting up lights and decorations in their own windows, ready for the big countdown on Wednesday.

Graham Winter, Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, said:

“December is going to be different this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get in the festive spirit safely. We’d like to say a big thank you to our special guests from Dorset County Hospital for their exceptionally hard work this year and everything they do for our community.”

While the current national restrictions for England will end on 2 December, the Dorset area will be entering the high alert Tier 2 level of restrictions. The new rules mean that public attendance at events must be limited. Running the event virtually will mean residents can enjoy the switch on wherever they are with no limits on the number of people who can watch it.
