Weymouth Town Council to Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth

Weymouth Town Council will fly the Commonwealth Flag on Monday 8th March to mark Commonwealth Day 2021 and the friendship and goodwill that connect the 54 Commonwealth countries.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, the council will not be carrying out a formal flag raising service at the Weymouth Town Council offices.

Cllr Graham Winter, Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, said:

“It is again with great regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the flag raising event at the Town Council Offices to recognise Commonwealth Day. This is a particularly poignant event as it was the last civic event that we hosted before the national lockdown and subsequent restrictions in 2020.”

“We look forward with great positivity to being able to host these events in the very near future”.

The Mayor will be giving a short video message recognising Commonwealth Day which will be available on the Weymouth Town Council Facebook page.

Commonwealth Day 2021 will be celebrated on Monday 8th March. This year’s event will be centred around the theme of Delivering a Common Future. The theme will highlight how the 54 member countries in the Commonwealth family are ‘innovating, connecting and transforming to help achieve some of its biggest goals, such as protecting natural resources and boosting trade.
