Could you be a town councillor?

A vacancy exists for a town councillor in the Westham West ward with an election due to take place later in April.

The vacancy follows the announcement by Trefor Morgan that he has resigned due to ill health. Weymouth Town Council would like to thank Trefor for all his hard work on behalf of Westham West residents and wish him all the best for the future.

From today (Monday 31st January), we are launching the Make a Difference campaign to find the next town councillor to represent Westham West.

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “We are calling on undiscovered community heroes who are passionate about Weymouth and Westham West in particular to put themselves forward to be elected to sit on Weymouth Town Council.

“The work our council does is remarkably diverse, from helping to get projects like The Marsh skatepark and parkour area off the ground, to representing the needs of your community and making decisions on services and projects the council would like to take forward. Being a town councillor can be incredibly rewarding. You can make a difference to local communities and help improve residents’ lives, so why not stand for election?”

The Local Government Association advise candidates wishing to stand for election must be British or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union, at least 18 years old, and registered to vote in the area. For more details visit https://www.local.gov.uk/be-councillor/becoming-councillor
