Anniversary Health Walk – Thursday 30th May 2019
Weymouth & Portland Health Walks have been running for just over a year now and to mark this achievement, a special anniversary walk will take place on Thursday 30th May at 10.30am starting from the Beach Office, The Esplanade, Weymouth.
Cllr Graham Winter, Weymouth Town Council mayor said:
“As a town council, we are very pleased to continue supporting this wonderful project. Councillors and staff have been invited to attend this walk along with the regular walkers of the scheme and everyone is invited to attend. The scheme now has over 180 walkers join the walks, with 45 fully trained walk leaders, walking 884 different walks, approximately 1400 miles! “
“This is a great programme designed to get people who don’t normally exercise walking again, and to encourage them to engage with more activities in the area. Please do try and support us as it is part of Weymouth & Portland being a healthy place to live, with activities for all and contributes to preventing ill health. As a town council we are keen to support regular activity which will help ward off disease, help you stay independent, reduce the risk of falls and give you more energy – but most of all it can be great fun.”
The special walk will be a gentle walk along the Esplanade, stopping for an informative chat with some of the gardeners at Greenhill Gardens, then returning to the Beach Office on the Esplanade.
Regular walks take place every Monday from Easton Gardens on Portland, every Thursday along the Esplanade, and every Friday from Sainsbury’s. Walks also take place on the first and the third Monday of the month from St Ann’s Church, Radipole.
