Enjoy a picnic in our parks, advises Weymouth Town Council 

People are being encouraged to have picnics not BBQs at Weymouth Town Council’s parks and open spaces. 

The town council have joined partner organisations to support the wildfire prevention campaign #BringAPicnicNotABBQ which was recently launched. 

Cllr Ryan Hope, Services Committee Chair, said: “We’re supporting the wildfire prevention campaign #BringAPicnicNotABBQ and our advice to residents and visitors is to enjoy our parks and open spaces responsibly; bring a picnic, not a BBQ. 

“Following the recent hot and dry spell, the ground has become extremely dry, and as a precaution the BBQ bins provided at Lodmoor Country Park events area and the Nothe Gardens have been temporarily removed. We will take the advice of Dorset and Wilts Fire and Rescue service and will reinstate the bins when the ground conditions change.

“And while not advised, BBQs are permitted on Weymouth Beach if used responsibly. I’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation on this matter.”
