Lighting up Weymouth this Christmas

Weymouth’s Christmas Lights Switch On takes place on Saturday 25th November at 5pm. And for the first time this year, festive lighting has also been installed near Greenhill Gardens.

The main festive focus for the lights switch on will be around the tree Weymouth Town Council will be installing at New Bond Street this week. And the Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller, will be doing the countdown to the switch on at 5pm on Saturday 25th November.

The event coincides with many other exciting activities and entertainment happening in the town organised by We Are Weymouth. This includes an elf street party and parade where people are encouraged to dress up as an elf. Plus, popular band the Leggomen will be performing on the stage. Visit their website for full details.

But that’s not all. Weymouth Town Council has installed festive lighting on the Victorian lamp posts from Brunswick Terrace near Greenhill Gardens to the rock groyne.

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller said: “I’m excited to be switching on the Christmas lights this year, and it’s fantastic to see the extra lighting that has been installed by Weymouth Town Council towards Greenhill Gardens. This will be a welcome addition to the rest of the festive lights around the town centre.

“I would encourage everyone to take advantage of all the festive events happening throughout the day on the 25th, rounded off with watching the Christmas Lights Switch On!”

Dawn Rondeau, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth, added: “We are thrilled to support Weymouth Town Council’s lights switch on with an elf parade and street party, including acts such as the panto cast and the Leggomen on the stage.

“We are excited that there will be a month of events throughout the town many around the tree, which people can choose to visit Weymouth for, over the Christmas period.”

There will also be free parking in Dorset Council car parks in Weymouth town centre to coincide with all the events happening on the 25th November.
