New festival proves huge success!

Over 120 people braved the wet weather to visit our first Love Your Weymouth Festival, with 6 talks on different topics from climate change, making your garden wildlife friendly, to how to reuse, recycle and repair items.

There were 16 exhibitors from a range of organisations such as, Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project, Repair Cafe Weymouth, Ridge Water Energy, Dorset Council Waste, Healthy Active Dorset, Weymouth Climate Hub The Friendly Food Club, Eco-Logical Sensible Energy Solutions, Sustrans, Dorset Coast Forum, Dorset Wildlife, Transition Towns, Weyshare Wessex Eco Energy, W&P Bee Keepers Association. They all shared their knowledge and networked with the festival goers as well as other stallholders to see what can be done in Weymouth to help reduce the impacts and climate change. Tips on reducing food waste were also shared, as well as energy saving ideas and fitting solar panels.

Mayor of Weymouth Cllr Kate Wheller also attended, along with other WTC Councillors including Graham Lambert, spokesperson on climate and emergency work, Leader David Harris, Chair of Finance and Governance Committee David Gray, Cllr David Northam, Cllr Tia Roos, Cllr Jon Orrell, and Cllr Ken Whatley.

The Mayor said: “Love Your Weymouth Festival in the Town Hall was incredibly well attended and a terrific morning. A great opportunity for locals and visitors to discover how many extraordinary things go on in Weymouth. Who says nothing ever happens.

“There is a group to cater for almost anything you want to do, and if there isn’t there is help available for you to start one. It was great to meet stallholders at the festival, and learn more at the various talks on how as a town we can come together to help tackle climate change.”
