What to expect at The Nothe Fort D-Day 80 event

As we edge closer to Thursday 6th June, here’s a reminder of what to expect if you have or plan to book a ticket to visit The Nothe Fort as part of our D-Day 80 commemorations.

We have partnered with The Nothe Fort to offer free entry on June 6th, at various time slots from 4pm.

As well as general access to the fort with its stunning views across Weymouth and Portland, there is a specially-commissioned D-Day 80 exhibition in the fort’s tunnels, an immersive soundscape in the observational tower, and details of other entertainment confirmed so far to help you decide when to go.

Tickets can only be booked from the official ticket site, so make sure you get yours before they’re gone!

4.30pm – Selected military vehicles follow cadets, who will march in to The Nothe Fort Parade Ground. Shortly after, author Pauline Crump will give a talk in the engine room about the Mulberry harbours.

6pm – talk on the background to D-Day and Weymouth’s role in it by Simon Burgess.

7pm – performance from The Decadettes band.

Outside the fort and open to all there will be a celebration of National Fish and Chip Day with local company Bennetts serving up the seaside classic from a van between 4pm and 8pm. There will also be an outdoor big screen broadcasting national coverage and historical footage relevant to the era between 3pm and 9pm.
