New Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected

Cllr Jon Orrell has been elected as the new Mayor of Weymouth at Full Council on Wednesday 15^th May, with Cllr Caroline Nickinson elected as Deputy Mayor. 

Outgoing Mayor Cllr Kate Wheller and outgoing Deputy Mayor Cllr Alex Fuhrmann were both thanked for all their hard work over the previous year. Cllr Kate Wheller raised around £550 during her year as Mayor which will be split between the British Heart Foundation, the Friends of MV Freedom, and the Evergreen Suite at Westhaven Hospital. 

Newly elected Mayor Jon Orrell thanked everyone for their support and endorsement saying we’ve got many things to be proud of in the town, including just finding out that Weymouth Beach has retained its Blue Flag and Seaside Award.  

Other elections at Full Council include: 

Cllr David Harris was re-elected as Council Leader, with the role of Deputy Leader currently vacant. 

The following councillors were nominated to serve as Committee Chairs and will be confirmed at the next respective committee meetings:  

Cllr David Civil – Chair of Finance & Governance Committee. 

Cllr Matt Bell – Chair of Environment and Services Committee. 

Cllr David Harris – Chair of the HR Committee. 

Cllr Peter Dickenson – Chair of the Planning & Licensing Advisory Committee. 

Cllr Simon Clifford – Chair of the Appeals Committee. 

Champion roles were also elected, including Cllr Gill Taylor as Community Champion, Cllr Joanna Dickenson as Armed Forces Covenant Champion, Cllr Thomas Taylor as Sports and Activities Champion, and Cllr Tim Young was appointed as the Rights of Way Liaison role with Dorset Council.
