Weymouth’s events go virtual
Weymouth has a proud reputation of hosting over 200 great outdoor events and festivals throughout the year, including the Armed Forces Weekend, Ironman 70.3, Nyetimber Seafood Festival, and beach sports events such as beach volleyball championships and the annual beach motocross event.
With the present coronavirus restrictions, the local event community has raised to the challenge and embarked on a virtual events campaign which encourages all event organisers to, where possible, go virtual. As part of this, the Town Council is organising a virtual events programme for Weymouth.
Cllr Graham Winter, Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, said:
“We are immensely proud of our rich, diverse and enthusiastic event organisers, responsible for organising fabulous entertainment, sporting challenges and raising tens of thousands of pounds for charities and good causes every year.”
“We look forward to a celebratory return of all of Weymouth’s festivals and events in the future. In the meantime, we applaud this fantastic virtual initiative, and I am sure it will help people feel connected, be entertained, inspired and healthier during the coronavirus pandemic”.
The virtual events programme presently includes:
- Park Yoga (every Sunday)
- St George’s Day 5k and 10k Run (23rd April-21st May)
- Star Wars Exercise Challenge (4th-18th May)
- VE Day 75th Anniversary (8th-10th May)
- Quayside Festival (10th May)
- Egdon Pyjama Jaunt (18th-24th May)
