Armed Forces Weekend rounded off with flag raising service
Huge thanks to everyone who turned out for one of Weymouth Town Council’s flagship events, Armed Forces Weekend. Crowds enjoyed the parades, a poignant service, and the amazing flypast featuring a Hurricane.
The three-day celebration of Armed Forces personnel past, present and future concluded with a flag raising ceremony today, Monday 20th June.
Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth, was joined by local and visiting veterans for today’s ceremony. She said: “Armed Forces Weekend is one of Weymouth’s biggest and best occasions and it’s always so special to see the town come together to honour our Armed Forces personnel of the past, present and future. The raising of the Armed Forces Day flag rounds off a weekend of commemorative events and we’re very proud to be flying the flag as a mark of respect and appreciation for all the hard work, bravery and commitment of those who serve our country.”
Armed Forces Day flag raising is part of a national initiative which took place at the same time in several locations in celebration of our military personnel.
