Sign Language boards installed to spread awareness and educate children on BSL

Weymouth Town Council have installed British Sign Language (BSL) boards to spread awareness and educate children on BSL and how you can use it to communicate with people. Sign Language is important as it provides a bridge between the Deaf and the hearing people.

Children will be able to achieve a new skill by having these boards installed. You can see the boards at the play areas in Melcombe Regis, Radipole Gardens, Lodmoor Country Park and Louviers Road.

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller said, “I am extremely happy that these BSL boards were put forward to be installed at play areas across Weymouth. They will provide those within the deaf community a chance to educate others creating an inclusive accessible area.”

These posts make play areas more accessible for everyone as well as raising awareness for the BSL community.

Weymouth Town Council continue to make play areas inclusive for everyone which is why there will also be Autism awareness communication boards that will be installed early this Summer.
