Dorset Council Dog Related Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO)
24th November, 2020
The Dorset Council Dog Related Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) outlines dog controls for beaches and open spaces in the Dorset Council area to keep them free from dog fouling and safe to use by residents and visitors.
The new PSPO came into force on 1 January 2021. It follows the approval of the recommendations from extensive consultation that gathered views from residents, visitors, businesses and other organisations. The recommendations which have been approved include:
- harmonisation of the exclusion period on specific beaches
- dogs will need to be on leads in public formal gardens, council owned car parks, within 5m of marked sports pitches and in some specified locations
