Round-up from Finance and Governance Committee

Grant applications to support gardening workshops were among items approved at a meeting of Weymouth Town Council’s Finance and Governance Committee on Wednesday 2nd February.

The Volunteer Centre Dorset was awarded £2,000 towards regular gardening workshops, which will be led by an experienced gardener. The sessions are due to run between March and October this year and will be open to centre volunteers and members of the public who want to learn new skills and pick up some gardening tips.

And £2,000 was awarded to Artwey towards the hire of a marquee to showcase work by Weymouth artists taking part in the Dorset Art Weeks, held at the Nothe Fort last year.

A summary of some of the other decisions agreed by the committee include:

Cllr David Gray, Finance and Governance Committee Chair, said: “It’s great to see local organisations benefitting from grant funding to put on community events. And measures such as introducing more street food stalls along the promenade or plans for a large-scale event later this year all go towards helping to boost income generation in the town. It also provides residents and visitors with even more variety of things to enjoy in Weymouth.”
