Free community events in Weymouth this summer

A bouncy castle, arts and crafts, and a musical trail are just some of the activities lined up at Weymouth Town Council’s free events this summer.

In August the Council is hosting two community events in Westham and Wyke, and a further event at Tumbledown community farm, offering fun and free activities for all the family to enjoy.

But first up on Thursday 1st August, families are encouraged to come to Tumbledown Community Space, Radipole Lane, Weymouth DT4 9RU for the Sounds in Summer event between 10am and 2pm.

The team at Tumbledown are busy making musical instruments from scrap materials and setting up a music trail around the site. So far, they have made some xylophones, an outdoor harp, a flip-flop-a-phone and drum kits. As well as the musical trail there will be a musical workshop where children can make their own tambourine or shaker.

Band Dr Jazz will provide some music from 12.45pm and everyone will be encouraged to join in and shake their shakers, or whatever instrument they have made.

The next community event will take place on Tuesday 6th August at Links Road in Westham, 11am-2pm. There will be a bouncy castle, a mini nature trail, arts and crafts, a couple of information stands and activities provided by Westham Community Centre, with a series of games and an under fives play area.

The next community event will take place on Wednesday 28th August, 11am-2pm at Wyke Gardens, which will also feature a bouncy castle and various arts and crafts activities. Westham Community Centre will again run activities, an arts and crafts workshop from Houseworks, and other local organisations like the Veterans Hub and Wyke Smugglers pub also keen to be involved.

There will also be a food bank donation facility at both community events to help support local families in the Westham and Wyke Regis areas. Contributions of non-perishable food items and any spare shopping bags would be greatly appreciated so please bring these along to the events.

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Jon Orrell, said: “The Council is committed to providing events in the heart of Weymouth’s communities, giving parents with young families some options on free days out to enjoy during the school holidays. From the community events in Westham and Wyke, to the creative Sounds in Summer event at Tumbledown, I am looking forward to welcoming everyone along for an enjoyable day out. No need to book, just turn up on the day and enjoy the free activities.”

Weymouth Town Council announced a number of free community events at the beginning of the year, with the first one taking place back in April at Top Club, Littlemoor.
