Community Expo round up!

Weymouth Town Council would like to thank everyone who took part in or came along to the annual Community Expo on Saturday 20th May. The free event at the Jubilee Clock saw a diverse range of charities and community groups across Weymouth showcasing what services they provide to residents, along with Weymouth Town Council services.

The stallholders said they were pleased to take part, educating and informing people of their work and how they can help people across Weymouth and the surrounding area. Groups like Weymouth Samaritans, for example, who provide a listening service to those who are struggling with issues whether that be the cost of living or mental health.

Outgoing Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Ann Weaving also awarded Community Awards to six winners. These included Natalie Lawrence, Help for Homeless, Gillian Patterson, Derek Davey, James Irvine and Ladies in Wey-ting. They were all acknowledged for their hard work in helping those in poverty, to providing free life supporting courses to rehabilitating wild sea birds.

Cllr Kate Wheller made a speech as the newly elected Mayor of Weymouth, and also hosted the Annual Town Meeting, which took place during the Expo, saying she couldn’t think of a better place to be holding such a meeting. She and also presented Cllr Ann Weaving with a past Mayor’s badge, who said she was thankful of her previous year in office as Mayor.

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller said: “It was a great event and I was delighted to be there as one of my first public engagements as Mayor. It was lovely to chat to some of the stallholders and understand a bit more about what it is they do for the benefit of people in our fantastic town.”

We can’t wait to welcome everyone at next year’s Community Expo which will be held at the Jubilee Clock again!
