Community memorial event in Weymouth in memory of late Queen
On Saturday 17th September, Weymouth Town Council will hold a community memorial service for people who want to come together and remember Queen Elizabeth II.
It takes place at Greenhill Gardens at 11am and will be led by the Mayor of Weymouth’s chaplain Brian Ellis.
Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “The Queen was the longest-reigning monarch in British history, and since learning of the incredibly sad news about Her Majesty’s death, Weymouth Town Council wanted to do something to bring communities together to remember her.
“A short service is being held at Greenhill Gardens which is home to the Queen Elizabeth II arch, which opened in 2019. It is also where Weymouth Town Council has set aside an area for people to lay flowers in tribute to our late Queen.”
People are encouraged to share their memories of the Queen following the short service on Saturday 17th September. Anyone wishing to lay flowers opposite the wishing well in Greenhill Gardens is kindly asked to remove any wrapping, and that no non-compostable items are used as the flowers are due to be composted at a later date and used to plant a commemorative tree.
