Free parking dates in Weymouth in the run up to Christmas

From the Christmas Lights Switch On to encouraging shoppers to support Small Business Saturday, free parking dates in selected Weymouth car parks have been announced.

Weymouth Town Council successfully applied to Dorset Council to allow free parking in its car parks on Saturday 25th November, Saturday 2nd December and Tuesday 26th December.

Participating town centre car parks include Weymouth Pavilion, Pavilion Forecourt, Governors Lane, Cosens Quay, Harbourside, Melcombe Regis, Park Street and Swannery.

Saturday 25th November is when Weymouth Town Council’s Christmas lights are being switched on in the town centre. The main focus will be around the tree the Council is providing at New Bond Street, with the Mayor of Weymouth Cllr Kate Wheller doing the countdown to the switch on at 5pm.

The event coincides with many other exciting activities and entertainment happening throughout the town organised by We Are Weymouth including an elf street party and parade. Visit their website for full details.

Saturday 2nd December is Small Business Saturday, which is a national event organised to encourage people to shop local and support small businesses who are a vibrant and key part of Weymouth’s retail offer. After a busy day of shopping, make your way down to the Promenade for Carols by the Coast, Weymouth Town Council’s family carol service hosted by the Mayor of Weymouth. Join Cllr Kate Wheller at the Christmas tree which will be located next to the Beach Office. There will be mince pies, mulled wine, the Westhill donkeys will be present, and the Salvation Army band will play some festive tunes. The fun starts at 5pm.

Just announced, free parking on Boxing Day!

On Tuesday 26th December there will be free parking across all town centre car parks. Grab yourself a Boxing Day bargain and support local businesses!

Cllr Ryan Hope, Chair of Services Committee, added: “Our thanks go to Dorset Council for supporting this initiative again this year. It’s great to have free parking for these three big events which will bring people into the town as well as encourage those to shop local and boost the economy. And do join the Mayor of Weymouth for Carols by the Coast on Saturday 2nd December and get into the festive spirit in the run up to Christmas.”

Car parks are expected to busier than usual, and we encourage to you walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.
