Free use of car parks offered to charitable events in 2022
Weymouth Town Council is offering four dates in 2022 when local organisations can use car parks for free for exciting events that will draw people to the town.
From today, charities and community groups that are Weymouth-based can now request which car park(s) they would like to use free of charge to help support their event. The parking will be available on four dates in Dorset Council-operated car parks across Weymouth. The offer is not available in December 2022.
The deadline to apply is Monday 14th February when applications will be shortlisted. Weymouth Town Council’s Services Committee will then select four organisations to benefit from the offer when it meets at the beginning of March.
Last year, events including Armed Forces Day, beach motocross, the Dorset Seafood Festival and the Christmas lights switch-on extravaganza were chosen.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Colin Huckle, said: “The rich diversity of events held in Weymouth are the heartbeat of the town. We are incredibly lucky to have a wide variety of hard-working and committed local organisations and groups who put on over 100 community-based events annually.
“From sporting events to food festivals, they all celebrate the town’s heritage, creating a spark of energy for the community and visitors alike to enjoy. Giving local organisations the opportunity for free parking to support their event is a great idea and I would like to thank Dorset Council for their support too.”
