Makeovers at town’s play parks 

Weymouth Town Council is investing £70,000 in upgrading equipment across seven play park sites in the town.

Work has started on the enhancements this week at the Pottery Lane play area where a new climbing frame with a slide is being installed. While the work is carried out this week, the play park is temporarily closed.  

The other upgrades will take place over the coming weeks, and include: Melcombe play area will have a wheelchair accessible roundabout installed, a springer that children can sit and play on which is shaped like a dolphin, and talking tubes that children can have fun talking to each other through. 

Lodmoor play area – a timber rope end swing, springer, and rotating climbing frame will be installed. New swings at Telford Close, Preston, a replacement swing at Miles Gardens, Upwey, and at Westmacott play area a four-seat spring seesaw will be installed. And Honeysuckle Close will be getting a springer in the shape of a falling star. 

Charmaine Denny, Assistant Town Clerk at Weymouth Town Council, said: “It’s great to see work starting on site to revamp some of our play parks for the benefit of children and young people in Weymouth to enjoy. We maintain 18 play parks across the town, and this is the second phase of enhancement works the Council is carrying out to upgrade or replace some of the existing equipment.” 

There will be some disruption at the playparks when work is carried out at each venue. Weymouth Town Council will post updates on social media to keep people informed about the work over the coming weeks.
