Weymouth Town Council says it with flowers in floral tribute to RNLI’s 200th anniversary

The annual charity carpet bedding display at Greenhill Gardens has been completed and representatives from Weymouth Town Council and the RNLI gathered in the gardens to celebrate.

Each year, Weymouth Town Council’s gardeners skilfully recreate the logo or crest of a local charitable organisation in a fitting floral tribute. The eye-catching beds are planted at Weymouth’s Greenhill Gardens for everyone to enjoy, providing a popular attraction for residents and visitors to the town.

The RNLI were chosen as the charitable organisation for 2024 in tribute to their 200th anniversary year.

Cllr Jon Orrell, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “2024 marks the 200th anniversary of the RNLI and our skilled gardeners have re-created the organisation’s logo in the carpet bedding at Greenhill. From providing lifeguards on the beach to launching the lifeboat to save lives at sea, the RNLI plays such an important role here in Weymouth. Weymouth Town Council is honoured to recreate their logo at Greenhill Gardens, and I hope many people will get to see it as it begins to burst with colour over the coming weeks.”

Teresa Drage, RNLI Fundraising Chair, added: “On behalf of Weymouth lifeboat station, thank you to the Greenhill Gardens team and Weymouth Town Council for this wonderful flower bed display in recognition of this the 200th year of the RNLI saving lives.”
