Weymouth Town Council’s second Community Networking Event proves a triumph for local organisations

Weymouth Town Council held its second Community Networking Event at Castle Cove Sailing Club on Wednesday 24th January.

Around 50 people from voluntary and community groups attended the event which started with an informal networking opportunity to find out what services and projects people run for local residents. The theme for this event was Social Media and Marketing, with the Communications Team from Weymouth Town Council delivering an engaging and insightful presentation on this topic to help local organisations with their own communications throughout Weymouth and the surrounding area.

People attended from organisations including NHS Dorset, Age UK South West, The Friendly Food Club, Dog Friendly Social, Help and Kindness, Park Community Centre, Dorset Mental Health Forum, The Sanctuary Crisis Intervention Hub CIC, Cycling Without Age, Hangers Heros, Repair Cafe Weymouth, Samaritans, Dorset Blind Association, Weymouth Lifeboat Fundraising, Chesil Radio, Weymouth Climate Hub and so many more.

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller, came along and spoke to the attendees. She said: “What a fantastic turnout! It is lovely to see so many people here from various organisations that go above and beyond to help communities in Weymouth. Weymouth Town Council is a community-focused council, and so it is a pleasure to connect with you all, you are the beating hearts of our community, dedicated to serving residents and delivering exceptional services.”

After the event, groups took to social media to express their thanks to the Council for organising the event:

“Thank you, it was a magnificent event. You’ve inspired and shared information which I’m going to use to create content. I would recommend this to all community organisations.”   -Dog Friendly Social

“Thank you for this great event with some very useful information regarding Social Media. We enjoyed talking to other people about the work they do in our community, looking forward to the next one.”  -Hangers Heros

“Great that you managed to get so many of our lovely community organisations together.”  -Repair Cafe Weymouth

The next Community Networking Event is on Tuesday 23rd April in the Council Chamber at The New Town Hall, Commercial Road, Weymouth and the theme is volunteering and recruitment. Be sure to look out on the Council’s Social Media channels for details on how to sign up!
