Meet The Team – Tina

What is your job role and your responsibilities?

“I am a Project Officer and my role is working across various projects for the community and town.”

Where you were / what you were doing before joining the Council?

“Originally from a small village near Portsmouth called Denmead, I had a variety of roles working for many years in IBM which gave me my Project Management experience. After redundancy, I then worked for various councils in different departments, so have had a real insight as to how councils of different sizes work. I then moved into Somerset and managed Retirement Developments for a few years, a very busy role with many challenges, but also came with its rewards, helping elderly residents with improving their homes and social lives.”

“I then took a leap of faith and moved into the Civil Service working at RNAS Yeovilton supporting the Royal Navy Aviation Engineering department. A completely different environment to work in and it gave me an insight into how the Military Services operated. There were many interesting stories and I never tired of watching the Merlin and Wildcat helicopters, with the occasional F35 making an appearance!”

“I moved to Weymouth about 3 years ago and loved the fact I was back by the coast, something I had missed in Somerset! Always a happy place for me to spend time walking around the coast and on the beach. Here, I worked for a short time at Cefas, which gave me an overview of what great work they do in the Marine Environment across the world, although my role was working in the Shellfish Food Safety programme, I was fortunate to be spared the smell of the Shellfish as I was a Project Administrator! My time then started at Weymouth Town Council in August 2023.”

Favourite thing about working for the Council?

“I love the team here, they are all so friendly and helpful, it is like a big family. People here are genuinely passionate about keeping Weymouth a great place to live. The variety of the job is amazing, I have hosted a new festival, Love Your Weymouth, which was hard work but very rewarding to bring together lots of groups and organisations.”

“I am currently working on installing new cycle furniture across Weymouth, creation of a new Cultural Strategy and partnership across Weymouth and refurbishment of a toilet block! I never know what will land in my lap next!”
